A small team was tasked with creating a digital experience that outlines the future of HR innovation. The team was asked, "what could Human Resources look like if it became AI driven and required little human interaction? We started by diving into current HR processes and workflows to get a thorough understanding of what it looks like at present day. This helped us uncover pains and issues that exist and brainstorm ways to alleviate these in addition to ways AI could be leveraged to optimize the future. We additionally aimed to grasp an understanding of what roles could be focused on if their HR focused responsibilities were handled by AI.
It became clear that those roles would be better set up to handle tasks that required innovative thinking and hands-on help if AI was positioned to successfully manage monotonous or repetitive tasks.
Objectives
Stakeholder Interviews with leaders of each Human Resources Phase
Market Research of other HR processes, tools, workflows, and leaders in the space
Comparative Analysis of cross-industry AI-led processes that could inform the HR space
Provide examples of ways that areas are already leaning into AI-led processes and real life-projects that have adapted elements of the AI being proposed.
What We Did
Interviews with a variety of team members from each phase to better understand the gaps of the current HR workflow process.
Affinity mapping to identify key themes of the gaps, needs, and motivations of the team members for each phase. We also looked at the larger ecosystem to understand themes across separate phases and innovative AI ideas that could leveraged universally.
Brainstorming sessions as a team to ideate on visualizing the process, current and future, in a way that was easy to digest and follow.
Review sessions to ensure the vision and direction met the needs of the team and could be reused or templatized in the future.
Walk throughs and presentations of the experience to tell the story and present this format as a method to be reused cross-industry not only for HR but other workflows as well.
Demo-ed this HR work to identify what items are low-hanging fruit that could be implemented sooner and features or changes that would require larger systemic changes to become reality.
The Process
Conduct Stakeholder Interviews and synthesis learnings and themes
Ideate on how to visualize the current process
Ideate on ways to visualize and interact with the proposed changes,
Provide examples of areas that suggestion is already being done elsewhere
Provide storyboards of the future process in both short term and long term timelines
Capture the percentage of workforce human vs. AI in the future timelines
Set up feedback cadence and demonstrations of the interactive template or format created
Outcome/Results
The format we presented was well received and adapted into a template that other projects working on the Human Resources and/or AI-led space could also use to visualize future processes.
